London, England
1741-42
Silver

Paul de Lamerie's mark consists of the crowned letters "PL" above a fleur-de-lys. The mark identifies Paul de Lamerie as the sponsor of the object under whose name it was submitted to the London assay office. Sponsor and maker are not necessarily identical, since successful workshops like Paul de Lamerie's employed several highly skilled craftsmen. Paul de Lamerie's marks appear on most, but not all objects that have been attributed to the Maynard Master.
