Punch ladle, Paul de Lamerie, 1738-39. Museum no. LOAN:GILBERT.732-2008.
Punch ladle
Paul de Lamerie (1688-1751)
London, England
1738-39
Silver
The vine and hop motifs entwined in the decoration of this ladle eloquently demonstrate its purpose. The delicate modelling of detail, although a little worn through use, is characteristic of the silver associated with de Lamerie's virtuoso modeller, the enigmatic 'Maynard Master'. De Lamerie regularly supplied ladles for bowls and tureens.
