Design for the drawing room ceiling at 8 Kensington Palace Gardens, London
1843
Museum no. 2006BF2360

Early in his career, Jones designed two buildings in Kensington Palace Gardens for John Blashfield, a tile manufacturer. Number 8 included tile panels directly copied from the Alhambra, a building that also provided the inspiration for many of the motifs in this ceiling design. At the time, Jones was making his name by designing mosaics and tessellated pavements for Blashfield.
