Background
25/11/2009 - The quilt began as a project for my A-level Art, inspired strongly by the works of Tracey Emin and Grayson Perry. I wanted to portray the traditional functions of the quilt by emphasising the family importance through photographs and text yet I also wanted to contrast and play with these familiar conventions. I used a variety of art techniques on to the fabric such as painting, applique and line drawing to convey this concept of the quilt being a necessity AND a form of decoration. I feel that the final product relates both to the world of art and the traditional concept of quilting, yet it also reflects strongly my own origions and a reminder to myself of the period of production. Like the families of other quilt makers, I am sure it will be something treasured by the Sheridan family for years after. .
