Quilts Submitted
Breakthrough 24” x 24”
Made for the Contemporary Quilt Group challenge 2010.
It was irresistible, when given this theme, to pair this quilt with my earlier piece, ‘Breakout’. This time frogs are escaping from the bathroom tiles to freedom in the wilderness beyond.
Breakout 36” x 36”
I love disintegrating pattern, and I also love the famous tiled lion frieze from Babylon. Here, naughty African cousins of those lions have broken free from their courthouse steps with disastrous consequences.
Machine-pieced log cabin quilt with hand-appliqued lions, blocks and beads.
Golden Apples, Silver Apples 75 cm x 120 cm
One of a series of quilts inspired by trees in mythology and folklore.
In tree mythology the apple tree symbolizes life, beauty, youthfulness and healing. The text misquotes W B Yeats.
Markal oil sticks applied through hand-cut stencils; machine quilted. Fabric by Farbstoff.
The White Tree One of a series of quilts inspired by trees in mythology and folklore.
The Celtic Tree of Life is often represented with the roots balancing the branches, and the Celtic tree oracle, linked to the ogham alphabet, provides the names stencilled around the border.
Raw-edge bonded appliqué on batik fabric with stencilled border; machine quilted.
