The Quilt of the Crosses The original quilt that caught my attention back in 1995 can be found at The Manor in Hemingford Grey, Huntingdon and was made by the late Lucy Boston, author of the Green Knowe stories for children. I gave my version its own sparkling character by linking the 56 crosses with dark blue patches that are reverse appliqued and added pale blue squares set on point. The edge treatment differs from the original too (which has a straight narrow red border) as each outside edge hexagon is backed by another. It is made by hand using the English paper method and hand quilted on a frame. It measures 88"x99" / 2.25x2.50 mtr. It was exhibited at the Festival of Quilts in 2004. My style and techniques have changed but my admiration for Lucy Boston's many patchworks remains strong. She died in 1990, aged 98
