Riba Awards - Winners 2007
Winner: RIBA Award 2007 for outstanding design
RIBA Awards are given for buildings that have high architectural standards and make a substantial contribution to the local environment. The V&A Museum of Childhood (Phase 2 refurbishment), by Caruso St John Architects, was one of 20 buildings across London to win the award in 2007. The judges said of the project: ‘This conservation work has been superbly executed. Respect for the fabric of the original building and a sense of its historical importance have been carefully considered in the approach to making the collection more accessible - both in bringing its access arrangements up to current standards and re-presenting the objects in a clear narrative. Cleverly, the character of the museum has been maintained and the new additions to the building solve the problems the museum faced in a skilful way.’
CABE Festive Five Award 2007
