Edwardian Outdoor Games
Photographs by Andrew Pitcairn-Knowles
4 October 2008 - 4 January 2009
Andrew Pitcairn-Knowles (1871-1956) was a pioneering photojournalist and a keen sportsman. At the beginning of the twentieth century, he made a number of trips to the seaside resort of Ostend in Belgium, where he recorded outdoor games such as cart races, kite flying and sand yachting.
This display includes a small selection of inkjet prints made from the Pitcairn-Knowles archive held by the V&A, and is a fascinating insight into the leisure activities and customs of the period.
