Sindy in the Sixties
1 October - 18 January 2010
Sindy's 1964 'air hostess' outfit, shown here against a 1960s BOAC poster featuring 'swinging' Carnaby Street, probably derived from an actual uniform designed by Sylvia Ayton MBE in 1960 for BEA. Photographs by kind permission of the British Airways Museum. (click image for larger version)

"The doll you love to dress"
A temporary display in celebration of British fashion doll Sindy during the Swinging Sixties, exploring how the launch of Pedigree's "doll you love to dress" in 1963 coincided with the explosion of youth culture in 60s society.
The display features over 70 objects, including several examples of vintage 60s Sindy dolls, boyfriend Paul and friends Mitzi and Vicki as well as clothing, furniture and accessories. Curated by vintage Sindy collector and expert Helen Carter.
Helen Carter is Programme Leader of Fashion Design at the University of East London, a practising designer and a vintage Sindy collector. The Make it happen, Made by you temporary display case features examples of things created by children, teenagers and adults, inspired by the museum's collections and programmes. Please note: This is a single case display.
