This dragon headdress was worn as part of the opening look for McQueen’s Spring/Summer 2008 collection, entitled Le Dame Bleue and it was a collaboration between Alexander McQueen and Philip Treacy, in memory of their great friend Isabella Blow, who had died five months earlier. And the collection was a great example of over the years how the two had worked together. Treacy has spoken about his relationship with McQueen and remembered how Isabella Blow was very instrumental in bringing them together initially and how as young designers they were, sort of, slightly weary of each other. But Blow always insisted that they had to work together and, as you know, when they did work together the results were incredible. Treacy has spoken about his work with McQueen and how the two really had a bond and a trust there. McQueen was very happy to let Treacy go away and do the work and come to him just before the show and reveal what he created. And I think there is that level of expertise and perfectionism that both designers have and that’s really why they were able to collaborate so well.
