Theatre and performance archives
The V&A Theatre and Performance Collections include many special collections and archives of the performing arts, from individual performers and collectors, theatres, theatre companies, and other organisations. They contain diaries, letters, manuscripts, photographs, ephemera, business papers, newspaper cuttings, and designs or sketches. There is direct access to selected online archive catalogues.
Study Room resource: Book illustration
This study room resource examines the development of book illustration. To make it easier for teachers and lecturers to access the most popular material with groups, we have developed themed study room resources which contain original prints and drawings.
The paper & book group: 'Of making many books there is no end'
The Paper & Book Group serves the needs of a wide range of objects, of different materials and sizes and has undertaken a strategy to meet the competing priorities of accessibility and conservation.

David Goldblatt and the V&A
In 1987, David Goldblatt gave 115 of his prints to the V&A, a generous gift which now forms the main part of the V&A’s Goldblatt collection. The photographs had toured several venues in the UK during the 1980s in an exhibition organised by the Side Gallery, Newcastle. With the exhibition coming to an end and the political circumstances in South Africa worsening, Goldblatt felt the need to secure his photographs in a safe, though publicly accessible, place outside his country.
New courtyard, entrance and exhibition galleries
The V&A is embarking upon a major development project to create new galleries and public spaces accessed through an entrance on Exhibition Road.
