Textile Conservation Studio
Until December of last year, Textile Conservation occupied three separate sites. The main studio was situated at the top of the lecture theatre stairs and had been used for some form of conservation activity since 1909. For many years it was known as the Art Workroom and a curious combination of sculpture and textile repair was carried out side by side.
Textile conservation in Russia
Despite extraordinarily rich textile collections there are no specialist training programmes for textile conservators. Only 2100 of the 5000 conservators in Russia are trained.
Consuming Indian textiles
Indian textiles were valued for a variety of reasons in 19th-century Britain. They were prized as symbolic trophies of Britain's empire in India and examples of its material resources, and were also admired as models of good design and inspiration for both manufacturers and consumers.
