Shopping for wallpaper
The earliest makers and sellers of wallpapers were stationers. At first customers purchased paper hangings direct from the manufacturer, but gradually the craft of paper staining (printing wallpaper) was divorced from that of stationer to become a branch of the upholstery trade.
