Lady Clementina Hawarden and the V&A
The V&A's collection of photographs by Clementina Hawarden came to the Museum following an exhibition in 1939: Early Photographs to Commemorate the Centenary of Photography, 1839-1939 at the Museum.
100 photographs by Bruce Bernard
Bruce Bernard, one of the most gifted picture editors of modern times, had an outstanding eye for choosing exceptional photographs. In 1996, the artist and collector James Moores invited him to assemble a collection of photography on his behalf, giving him complete freedom.
Photographs by Ori Gersht
Ori Gersht uses the sky as a canvas for his experiments with the physical properties of photography. Through colour saturation, these almost abstract images assert both the primacy of natural light (the raw material of photography) and the ability of colour photography to interpret it.Ori Gersht made Big Bang in 2006 specially for this exhibition. In it, he evokes twilight via a fusion of the sirens that sound in Israel and that he remembers from his childhood.
Camera-less photography: techniques
Camera-less photographs can be made using a variety of techniques, the most common of which are the photogram, the luminogram and the chemigram. These techniques are sometimes used in combination. Many involve an element of chance.
