Devised by artist Sue Lawty in association with the V&A, the World Beach Project is a global art project open to anybody, anywhere, of any age, building on the experience many of us have had on holiday of making patterns on beaches and shorelines.

Black and Asian Performance - A Users' Guide

'Black and Asian Performance at the Theatre Museum - A User's Guide' was the V&A Theatre Collections’ first major step in bringing its collections on the vital history of black performance to life. It was published in 2003, but still provides a useful introduction to relevant material within our collections.

The war of Troy tapestry

This tapestry is from a much larger original set depicting a medieval version of the history of the Trojan wars. The tapestry is crammed with beautifully executed and lively scenes of battle, kings, queens, princes, warriors and horses. You can listen to a description of the tapestry.

The Boar and Bear Hunt tapestry

This tapestry is one of a group of four, known as the Devonshire Hunting Tapestries, made in the southern Netherlands in around 1425–30. All four tapestries depict hunting scenes; the other three are the Swan and Otter Hunt, the Deer Hunt, and Falconry. The tapestries are known to have been at Hardwick Hall in Derbyshire in 1601, as they appear in an inventory compiled in that year for the Countess of Shrewsbury, owner of the Hall.

An away day to Belgium: Washing tapestries

On a bright sunny day in June the Textile Conservation Section set off on an away-day to Belgium to witness the washing of a tapestry. We hope to employ the process on objects for the new Medieval & Renaissance Galleries.

A gift in your will

You may not have thought of including a gift to a museum in your will, but the V&A is a charity and legacies form an important source of funding for our work. It is not just the great collectors and the wealthy who leave legacies to the V&A. Legacies of all sizes, large and small, make a real difference to what we can do and your support can help ensure that future generations enjoy the V&A as much as you have.
