Regular column of the psychoanalyst, Stephen Grosz.
'A Passion for Ignorance' - the article describes how a woman whose husband is having an affair seems to choose not to see it. I used the body language of covering the eyes as a starting point, and to show that she's happy that way I thought of her playing a game of hide and seek with her daughter and smiling. At first it seemed to me to be about her relationship with her husband, but after I'd drawn out my rough I realised I had unconsciously got to the essence of the piece which is really about her relationship with her mother who had been in the same situation and also chosen not to see it. So the woman in the article could either be the mother in the picture or the child. Annabel Wright
