Creating images based on a paragraph written in Jules Verne's novel "Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea", I have reflected thoughts about the vastness of the sea and how, even now, many creatures are likely to be hidden, undiscovered, within its great depths. The style of illustration is based on Victorian theatre play rolls which suggest some of the magical quality of the sea as well as the era that the novel was written in. Also interlinking both the text and the imagery causes the viewer to have to look more closely, this slightly less obvious way of seeing mirrors the murkiness of the sea and how sometimes we have to look a lot more closely to reveal those creatures that are still unknown.
