Conservation Staff
The V&A Conservation Department is active in training, education and research and in the dissemination of conservation knowledge, all of which advance the profession, as well as being essential contributions to the care of the V&A's own collections. Conservation staff lecture and publish widely and many of them are recognised as national and international experts in their respective fields.

This section within the Conservation Department is responsible for managing and supporting the activities of conservation staff.

Furniture, Textile & Fashion Conservation
Furniture, Textile and Fashion Conservation is a section that has expertise in the very wide range of materials and techniques associated with the conservation of wood and textile objects.

Paper, Book & Paintings Conservation
Paper, Books & Paintings Conservation is a sub-section of the Conservation Department and includes preservation mountcutting and conservators working for the Royal Institute of British Architects.

Sculpture, Metals, Ceramics & Glass Conservation
The Sculpture, Metals, Ceramics and Glass section comprises four studios. The conservators, plus a number of students and interns, work on a large range of object types and materials.

The Science Lab
The Science section aims to contribute to the knowledge and understanding of museum objects and their environment. The skills within our multi-disciplinary team include: chemistry, physics, materials science, conservation science, polymer science and microscopy.
