Inspired by...2010

2009 Winner of the Word and Image Book Prize: V&A ABC book, made by Laura Caiafa.

Inspired by… is the V&A's annual art competition for people on part-time courses. Participants create a work of art or craft inspired by the collections of either V&A South Kensington, the Theatre Collections Online or the V&A Museum of Childhood. Entries are judged by a panel of curators and the winners and other selected works are displayed in the museum of their inspiration. Winners in their category also receive a prize.

Inspired by… is supported by NIACE, the National Institute of Continuing Education.

Selected and winning artworks will be displayed in October 2010 but with some changes making it an even more exciting competition than previously.

  • The display will take place in October 2010 in a  new gallery space in the centre of the Museum
  • The deadline for applications will be the 4  May 2010
  • The exhibition will be judged by a panel of curators/educators and a professional designer
  • There will be additional prizes for artwork inspired by the Medieval and Renaissance Galleries
This year the V&A will be launching an informal strand to the Inspired By project to run alongside the official competition.  Anyone who has created a work of art inspired by the museum's collections will be invited to upload photos of their work to a Flickr group pool.  The pool will be open to anyone and is not judged - entry to the official competition is separate.

Inspiration can be found by paying a visit to the V&A South Kensington collections, exhibitions and displays, the Museum of Childhood, by searching the V&A's extensive database Search the Collections or the Theatre collections online.

Please start visiting the V&A for the inspiration for your entries.
