The Victoria and Albert Museum has the greatest collection of Italian Renaissance maiolica in the world. Highlighting the collection’s most famous pieces, along with rediscovered treasures and recent acquisitions, this is the first V&A exhibition to deal exclusively with maiolica, a type of tin-glazed earthenware. It will explore the place of maiolica in major life events including birth, courtship and marriage. Showcasing the quality and range of the collection, the exhibition will provide a unique insight into the range of ceramic objects used in the home, bringing the visitor into the banqueting halls and studies of Renaissance Italy.
