This medal commemorates the occasion when the City of Paris presented a cradle to Emperor Napoleon III and the Empress Eugénie following the birth of their only son, the Prince Imperial. This side of the medal shows the child sleeping in the cradle on pillows supported by a Napoleonic eagle.
