Four facsimile lacquer and foil boards were used in the second stage of testing. The first of these boards (upper left) had gold foil squares attached to a black lacquer surface. The edges of the squares were adhered with urushi, with a 1mm neck being left open for the introduction of consolidant. This board was used to assess how well the adhesives selected in the first stage of testing would penetrate under gold foil. The three other boards had strips of gold and silver foil attached at one end to a black lacquer surface. These were used to assess how well the consolidants selected in the first stage of testing would adhere metal foil to a black lacquer ground. After the adhesives had been applied under the foil and allowed to harden, fine wedge-shaped bamboo sticks were used to assess how readily the edges of the strips could be lifted.

実験の第二段階では、漆と金属の薄板の四枚の手板が用意されました。これらの手板のうち一枚目(上左)は黒漆に金の薄板の四角片を付着したものです。四角片の端は、修理材注入のための1mmの開口部を除いて漆で接着されました。この手板は第一段階で選んだ修理材が金属の薄板の下にどの程度含浸するかを評価することを目的としました。他の三枚の手板には黒漆地に一辺だけ接着した金銀の薄板片が用意されました。これらの手板は第一段階で選んだ修理材が金属の薄板をいかに良く黒漆地に接着するかを評価することを目的としました。金属の薄板の下に含浸させた修理材が乾いた後、細いくさび形の竹棒を使って端の剥がれ具合を評価しました。
