Jacques-Emile Ruhlmann 'Lotus' dressing table

Ruhlmann himself was not a cabinet-maker. He was a designer and a decorator. Until 1923 when he opened his own workshop, he would commission carefully chosen cabinet-makers to make his furniture.

He was after perfect execution of his own original designs and challenged his cabinet-makers to innovate and to find new solutions. Here, the carcase of the table is made of solid oak. Oak is the best carcase wood because of its hardness and stability.
