description

René Lalique.
'Oranges' vase.
Press-moulded glass with black enamels.
French, 1926.
Made at the Lalique glassworks (Verrerie d'Alsace).
V&A: Circ.377-1970.

René Lalique began his experiments with glass in the early years of the century.

Using mass-production techniques such as press moulding, he developed an enormous range of decorative glassware that frequently employed natural motifs such as birds, fish or flowers.

He produced lighting, tableware, figurines, architectural glass, perfume bottles and mascots and often decorated works with enamel paint as can be seen in this vase.
