Packaging design at the D&AD Awards was initially the exclusive preserve of brand manufacturers seeking to reinforce their advertising message with on-shelf appeal. Then, in the early eighties, retailers such as Asda, Tesco and Waitrose got in on the act with own-label packaging designed to compete directly with the big brands. Things got really interesting from that point on as everyone - manufacturers and retailers alike - began to invest in exciting new packaging ideas. |
