The power of the giant 48-sheet poster emerged in the seventies as memorable campaigns by Collett Dickenson Pearce for Heineken and Benson & Hedges caught the imagination - and Saatchi's 'Labour isn't working' poster helped the Conservatives win power. In the eighties billboards worked even harder to exploit the outdoor medium, often using surreal imagery.
