Royal Engineers army jacket, 1914
T.829-1994
White silk dress shirt with frill
Designed by Mr. Fish, London, 1967
This striking red wool military jacket belonged to the uniform of the
Royal Engineers. Together with a pair of flared, striped trousers, the
jacket is being worn decoratively. Wearing military uniforms as fancy
dress was a way of declaring that war was outdated.
The Beatles wore customised band uniforms on the front
of their 1967 album 'Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band'.
