Royal Engineers army jacket, 1914
T.829-1994

White silk dress shirt with frill
Designed by Mr. Fish, London, 1967

This striking red wool military jacket belonged to the uniform of the Royal Engineers. Together with a pair of flared, striped trousers, the jacket is being worn decoratively. Wearing military uniforms as fancy dress was a way of declaring that war was outdated.
The Beatles wore customised band uniforms on the front of their 1967 album 'Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band'. Similar items could be bought secondhand in shops like I Was Lord Kitchener's Valet.
