Rocker helmet,
vinyl and plastic, 1960s
The rockers were named for their musical preference for rock 'n roll.
They were inspired by 1950s icons of American teen rebellion against
prosperous conformity, like James Dean and Elvis Presley.
Dedicated rockers clad in black leather gear rode powerful
motorbikes. They were contemptuous of lightweight mod scooters.
In the late 1960s, the Hell's Angels brought bikers an even
more fearsome reputation.
