This section identifies the strongest links between the exhibition and the National Curriculum and provides some suggestions for activities and tasks. Most emphasis has been given to History (KS3 Britain 1066-1500) and Art & Design (KS2+).
Gothic; Art for England includes over 300 objects, including huge tapestries, magnificent sculptures, armour, paintings, tomb effigies, reliquaries, jewellery and church plate. The passage of time, as well as fire, war and the Reformation have destroyed many medieval objects making what survives both rare and extremely valuable as evidence of this distant and misunderstood period of English history.
The exhibition has seven sections that can be used to help structure activities and your visit:
Royalty
War, Chivalry and Spectacle
Patrons
Urban Life
The Household
Church and People
Death and Commemoration
How to book
Visit our schools section to find out about booking a class visit. Admission to the exhibition is free if a booking is made at a minimum of ten days before the visit.
