INRI
These are the four initial letters of the Latin words 'Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum' (Jesus of Nazareth King of the Jews).
During the Crucifixion, these words were written in Hebrew, Greek and Latin on a board nailed to the cross. In reference to this, INRI is sometimes shown on the bar above Christ crucified, as on the foot of this chalice.

And Pilate wrote an inscription to be fastened to the cross; it read, Jesus of Nazareth King of the Jews. This inscription was read by many Jews, because the place where Jesus was crucified was not far from the city, and the inscription was in Hebrew, Latin, and Greek.
