Sorrow over Christ's Death
Mary is often shown in a scene known as the 'Pietà' (from the Italian for 'pity'). She holds the body of Christ in her arms and weeps for his painful and humiliating death.
The scene shows Mary as a mother, grieving for her child. Yet, even in grief she obeys God's will.
