Watch the techniques used to create an Arts and Crafts Windsor chair using elm and oak, including shaping the seat and spindles. James Mursell is a chair maker specialising in traditional techniques. He teaches at West Dean College.

Japanese Stencil-Dyeing

Discover this unusual technique using cut stencils and brightly coloured dyes, which was used extensively in Japanese folk textiles. Vivien Prideaux is a textile artist and teacher with a specific interest in dyeing. She has travelled extensively in Japan and studied this technique in detail and has written a book on Indigo dyeing. She is a member of the 62 Group of textile artists.
