Watcombe Terracotta Clay Co., Torquay, Devon

G.J. Allen discovered the red clay unique to this part of South Devon when building Watcombe House. He set up his art pottery venture in 1867. Dresser seems to have been connected with the pottery around 1870.

The evidence is based on the similarity between the ceramic shapes and the shapes used in metalwares designed by Dresser, and his love of terracotta as a medium.
