The V&A holds several thousand objects relating to Black History and more are being discovered all the time. These include portraits of black people in Britain through the centuries and objects made in Africa and the Caribbean. Another significant group is the work of black artists and designers. Here are a number of objects from this group, each made during the past thirty years. Some have been selected because the people who made them actively identify themselves as Black British artists, or because their work explores the shared histories of Britain's diverse cultures. Others show traditional African techniques being used in a contemporary way. Some of the artists are also featured in the Black British Style exhibition.

If you would like to know more about any of these objects, please contact webmaster@vam.ac.uk
