V&A Style in Islamic Art Quiz

Ottoman Baroque

In monumental buildings such as mosques, Baroque motifs were usually applied as superficial decoration to traditional Ottoman forms. But in the decorative arts, and in small structures such as fountains, the whole form was remodelled. The curving lines of this small coffee pot show how these Baroque ideas were put into practice. They continued to be used in Turkey until the 1820s, long after they had been abandoned in Europe.
