V&A Style in Islamic Art Quiz

Floral themes

Floral designs remained popular in Qajar art. The groups of massed flowers on the gold dish contain identifiable garden varieties, such as iris, rose and hydrangea. On the rim, pairs of small birds are arranged on either side of a stunted bush. This is shown as though it has burst back into life in spring, producing a mass of blossom. The lacquer mirror case shows more traditionally Islamic floral designs, highly stylised and arranged in formal patterns.
