Conference
At Home in Renaissance Italy

Conference offering an insight into the Italian Renaissance domestic interior; its character, contents and the processes of everyday Renaissance life.
Cost: £52 for one day (including V&A Members and Patrons). Concessions: £44 senior citizens; £20 disabled people, ES40 holders and students. Two days £100/£88/£36. One free lecturer’s ticket is offered for every 10 student tickets booked and one free place is available to a carer accompanying a disabled person. The Dyer's Workshop: Renaissance Colours

Learn the ‘segreti per colori’ (secrets of colours) used by 15th century Renaissance dyers, as you create your own sumptuous range, from scarlet silk to saffron velvet.

Renaissance Embroidery for the Modern Home

Focusing on embroidery methods, design and application, create your own piece for the modern home by drawing on the historic techniques of the Renaissance period.

An Introduction to Italian Renaissance Art
Friday 3 November, 11.00-16.00
Understand the origins of the Italian Renaissance and explore iconography and technical methods by examining the works of great masters such as Giotto, Donatello, Masaccio, Leonardo and Michelangelo.

The Dyer's Workshop: Renaissance Colours

From scarlet to saffron, the closely guarded recipes derived from a 15th century manuscript Segreti per Colori will be prepared and used to dye a sumptuous range of silks and velvets.
Italian Bargello Embroidery: The Renaissance at Home
Saturday 16 & Sunday 17 December, 14.00 – 17.00
This form of embroidery originated in Medieval Italy, characterised by a distinct flame-stitch pattern. The demonstration will show how this most traditional of designs is used today.

Antonio Carluccio is a restaurateur, author and celebrated cook. He opened his first Carluccio's Caffè in 1999 with his wife Priscilla with a vision to provide a caffè and food shop offering real Italian food. They searched every region of Italy for only the finest quality ingredients. Antonio will share his passion for Italian food and discuss the life and recipes of Renaissance Italy.

Mask Making

Decorate your own Italian carnival mask, using a variety of festive materials. If you make a mask on 30 December you can watch The Intention Drama Company performing Commedia dell’ arte, and at the end you can have a go at some of the acting techniques.
