At Home in Renaissance Italy

Most of the bronzes produced during the Renaissance were functional. This handbell, which has lost its handle, is inscribed 'With my ring I call my servants'. The study was often positioned far from the clamour of the household, so it was useful to have a bell to summon the servants.
