Brand Identity Photography Workshops
Monday 23, Tuesday 24 and Wednesday 25 October; Friday 3, Friday 10, Friday 17 and Friday 24 November; Friday 1, Friday 8 and Friday 15 December 2000; Friday 5 and Friday 12 January 2001, 11.00 - 16.30, Education Studio. Bring along a branded object that speaks 'you' - a piece of clothing, an accessory, hair product, mobile phone or CD. Tour the exhibition, then take part in a one-day photography workshop and have your photograph displayed in the V&A. Places are limited to 12 people per day. Suitable for ages 16 and over. Individual, student, youth or community group bookings available. Fee: Free but places must be booked in advance.
An Evening for Educators
Tuesday 23 October 2000, 18.30 - 21.00, Exhibition and Lecture.
Teachers and lecturers
from all sectors are invited to a private view of Brand.New, and to
hear a talk by co-curators, Jane Pavitt and Gareth Williams. Members
of the Education Department will be available to advise those wishing
to book visits. Pay bar available. Fee: Free but places must be booked
in advance.
Conference
Brand.New: a major two-day conference at the V&A
Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 November 2000, 10.30 - 17.00, Lecture Theatre.
Encompassing design, fashion, advertising and marketing, the conference will explore the processes and significance of branding in our globalised and information-led society. The conference will be of interest to students and lecturers in the fields of art and design, media and communications, sociology and anthropology; to practitioners in these disciplines and to members of the public wishing to know more about current debates relating to design, identity and mass consumption.

Workshops on branding past and present: that first lipstick, car or washing machine; pester power - conflicts between adults and children over the purchase of the latest brand; loyalty to or boycotting of brands; branding across cultures. For older or intergenerational groups. Includes a tour of the exhibition and reminiscence through discussion and collection of branded objects. Dates/venues by arrangement. Shopping Trolley
Art works invited from student, youth and community groups on the basis
of a week's shopping following a tour of the exhibition. Submit 2D or
photographs of 3D work for consideration for display at the V&A.

Drop-In-Events

Branded Response
Throughout exhibition period. Your chance to contribute during the exhibition by adding comments on branding past and present - write down the first brand you remember, the luxury brand you covet. Responses will be displayed in the Museum for others to see and add to.
Family Event: Culture in a Can
Saturday 21 - Sunday 29 October 2000, 11.00 - 13.00 and 14.00 - 17.00, Japanese Gallery
Make your own label for a V&A product inspired by Brand.New. Add your creation to the wall of cans on display in the Japanese Gallery. With artist Alex Julyan. For families with children aged 5-11 years. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
