The Honourable Mary Frederica Seymour
(1824 -1902) Maid of Honour

Mary Seymour was one of two Maids of Honour who accompanied the Queen to the opening of the Great Exhibition. She was a Maid of Honour for six years from 1850. Several members of her family, including her brother Conway and her cousin, the Marquis of Hertford, were appointed to positions in the Queen's household.

Maids of Honour were carefully selected and were usually of aristocratic birth. They were on duty to attend the Queen for a period of one month, three times a year.
