Henry William Paget (1768 - 1854)
2nd Marquess of Anglesey

The Marquis of Anglesey was an army officer, Master-General of the Ordnance (the branch dealing with military stores and materials). He had been second-in-command to Wellington at Waterloo, where he lost a leg in battle. By 1851 he and Wellington, both old and deaf, were the only surviving senior commanders of the British forces at Waterloo. At the opening of the Exhibition, they supported each other in the procession, as the Queen noted in her diary: 'The old Duke of Wellington & Ld. Anglesey walked arm in arm, which was a touching sight.'.
