2RL Chihuly at the V&A 21 June - 21 October 2001
The V&A proudly houses the only major work on public display in the UK
by Chihuly - a five metre high Chandelier hanging
as a centrepiece in the V&A's Dome entrance. This new exhibition of the
glass master's work evolves from the Dome area featuring a spotlight space
of stunning glass Baskets. The Chandelier has been re-modelled expanding
to twice its current size. The Medieval Treasury features a tunnel installation
with an overhead Persian Ceiling, a visual feast likened by Jennifer Opie
(Exhibition Curator) to a coral sea. Emerging from the tunnel a Macchia
Forest display creates a colourful entry to the Pirelli Gardens. The gardens
feature Seal Pups, Herons, Spears, Fiddleheads and a Tower of Light standing
11 metres high over the fountain creating a powerful conclusion to the
exhibition.
