Toshiba Gallery of Japanese Art
20 February - 31 March 2002

Atsuita type No robe with stylised floral and tortoise shell patterning on a stepped (dangawari) ground, woven silk, by Yamaguchi Yasujiro (b.1904), 1975.
Of the many wonderful textiles that have been created in Japan none are as spectacular as the costumes woven for the classical No theatre. This exhibition features some of the finest and most magnificent robes created by Yamaguchi Yasujiro who, at the age of 97, is one of Kyoto's greatest masters of the art of weaving. The display will be rotated on 11 March.
