Ceramic Points of View podcast series

Alison Britton's Big White JugFor those of you who have been following the Ceramic Points of View podcast series over the past few months - thanks for listening. We hope you enjoyed them. I certainly learned a lot about studio pottery from editing them - a craft I knew next-to-nothing about beforehand.

I loved the mysterious vocabulary of pottery - slipside, terra sigillata, ‘runs and drips of glaze’. The quest for a ‘truth to material’ among the leading potters of the British studio pottery makers struck me as a sound ideal to strive for.

The difference of opinions displayed towards each object by the critics, makers and art historians was often quite extreme. Over the course of the 10 episodes I started to see a consistency in each speaker’s approach to the pots and to get a sense of the specific qualities of a pot each of them would respond strongly to.

This podcast series will remain available on the podcast feed for the next few months.
