A major international conference

Lecture Theatre
A distinguished panel
of international scholars and conservators will present the results of
recent research into Italian terracotta sculpture. Their work complements
and explores the themes of the exhibition and the accompanying book.
Topics to be considered include:
The changing use of the bozzetto or model from the 15th to the 18th
century
Changes in workshop practice
What conservation can tell us about sculptors working methods
The materials and techniques of terracotta sculpture
The programme of lectures
and case studies is aimed at art historians, art history students, curators,
conservators, and others with a broad interest in the history of terracottas
and Italian sculpture.
Speakers include:
Bruce Boucher, Professor of the History of Art, University College London
and curator of the exhibition, Charlotte Hubbard, Senior Sculpture Conservator,
V&A, Dr Anthony Sigel, Harvard University Art Museums, Dr Elena Biancha
di Goia.
