Series description

Series title: National Arts and Media Strategy Unit: Discussion Documents, 1990-1992
Reference: ACGB/105
Extent: 1m 10cm

In 1990, the Minister for the Arts asked the arts and media funding bodies (the Arts Council of Great Britain, the British Film Institute, the Crafts Council and the Regional Arts Associations Regional Arts Boards) to prepare a national strategy. The Scottish and Welsh Councils conducted parallel exercises and local authorities and museums funding bodies were also associated with the strategy.

The final version of the national arts and strategy was completed for Summer 1992. It was intended to provide a mission statement for the arts and media over the following decade.

Scope and content

This series consists of the "discussion documents" which were produced as part of the process. Responses to the documents were collated by the NAMS Unit and from these a draft of the strategy was prepared.

There are over forty discussion documents here and they are accompanied by some working drafts and relating correspondence and papers. The written responses to the documents can be found amongst the administration files of ACGB/105.

No detailed list of the material in this series is currently available.
