In 1990, the Minister for the Arts asked the arts and media funding bodies (the Arts Council of Great Britain, the British Film Institute, the Crafts Council and the Regional Arts Associations/Regional Arts Boards) to prepare a national strategy. The Scottish and Welsh Councils conducted parallel exercises and local authorities and museums funding bodies were also associated with the strategy.
The final version of the national arts and media strategy was completed for Summer 1992. It was intended to provide a mission statement for the arts and media over the following decade.
This series consists of records created during the administration of the scheme at the Arts Council. It includes basic administrative records such as minutes, day files, press and publicity files and budget files.
There are audio cassette and large-type copies of the discussion documents and strategy documents. There are also files containing the written responses sent to the Council in reply to the discussion documents listed in series ACGB/105 and the draft strategy document, "Towards A National Arts And Media Strategy".
There is no list of individual files in this series currently available.
