In April 1991, the government formally began consultation on the future structure of local government in the English Shires. In July 1992, the Local Government Commission was set up to undertake the review of structures on a county by county basis.
This series consists of the Arts Council's files relating to the Local Government Reviews. These files contain papers and publications relating to the Commission's findings. There is also some correspondence with the local authorities involved in the reviews. The files belonged to Andy Feist, Senior Policy Analyst in the Arts Council's Policy and Planning Unit.
Arrangement
The files are arranged by shire or district. When ordering items please highlight the area you wish to research. There are also two transfer cases which contain general files relating to the reviews.
There is no list of individual files in this series currently available.
Restrictions on access
Access to unpublished material less than 30 years old is subject to the written permission of the Arts Council of England. Apply in the first instance to the Archive of Art and Design at the Victoria and Albert Museum.
