Context

Keith Jeffery was appointed as Director for Festivals and External Affairs in 1971 and festivals came to constitute a significant category of recipients of Council subsidy. In 1979/80 the new Regional Department took over responsibilities for mixed media festivals from K.H.Jefferys. He continued with the Arts Council as the Adviser for External Affairs until his retirement in 1983.

Scope and content

The files in this series relate to those festivals which the Arts Council supported by means of financial assistance and advice and guidance. It includes some files relating to the Festival of Britain.
