This series contains papers relating to major areas of direct promotion by theVisual Arts Department. Direct promotion consisted of activities carried out directly by the Arts Council itself and not through another body or client. In the case of the Visual Arts Departmentthis included art film tours, exhibitions, the management of theHayward and Serpentine Galleries and various art loan schemes.
For other areas of non-client funding and non-client based activity by theVisual Arts Department see ACGB/32 which contains papers relating to, amongst other things, conferences, publications and research in which the Department was involved.
After 1986 the Council's activities in film were managed by the Film, Video and Broadcasting Department. Therefore, see also ACGB/56 for later papers relating to major direct promotion in the area of film.
